South West Champions

This week the boys and girls football team travelled to Yeovil to compete in the National League South West finals. Both teams played schools representing Bath City, Yeovil Town and Weymouth.

In the group stages, the girls dominated, winning 5 out of the 6 games. There were goals from Brooke, Mimi and Maya. The boys' team got off to a disappointing start, losing their first match but then picking up 1 draw and then 4 wins on the bounce. There were a number of goals from Freddy, Henry, Jackson and Caiden. Both teams therefore qualified for the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, the girls and boys both beat Yeovil, with the girls winning 2-0 and the boys making passage via a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw. The girls' final was against Bath City, which ended up going to penalties as the score was 0-0 at the end of extra time. Izzy saved 3 penalties and Myla, Maya, Mimi, Lottie and Dolly all bravely took penalties and scored. The final save from Izzy meant they won and were crowned South West champions. The boys followed suit with a penalty shoot-out victory 7-6 after the match finished 0-0 after extra time. A fine save from Sonny in goal during the shoot-out ensured the boys were also crowned South West champions. The girls and boys squad of Izzy, Lottie, Myla, Ela, Maya, Dolly, Mimi, Brooke, Sonny, Jaxon, Caiden, Toby,
Freddy, Jackson and Henry were exceptional all day and demonstrated collaboration, respect, responsibility, resilience and aspiration in abundance. Well done to everyone. Both teams will now represent Torquay United and the South West at the Southern Finals in May.
